A statue of chanzeri has 1,000 eyes, 1,000 arms and as many legs. Forty-nine kilometres from Leh on the Leh-Manali, is Hemis Gompa the biggest monastery in Laddakh. This gompa, a great architectural achievement on a green hill against the back grompa or blue sky is famous for its gold statues and stupas embellished with precious stones.
