I had my first child in an army hospital overseas. It was a difficult labor, and finally the doctor determined that I should have a C-section. I was agreeable to anything that would move the process along. In the days that followed, a student nurse accidentally gave me an injection that hit my sciatic nerve. The result was a medium level of sciatic nerve pain that lasted for months. At the time, I credited the delivery process with my problem, but later I learned that it was, in fact, the misplaced injection. I walked with a painful limp for months. Today doctors would have been able to treat my problem quickly. I am so glad for modern medicine.
