Eyelid eczema is a chronic skin condition that affects the skin that covers the eyes.  It is characterized by itchiness, scaling and redness of the skin.  Although the skin in other parts of the body can get eczema, the eczema eyelids is generally considered the worst form because the eyelids are very delicate, soft, thin and very sensitive.  The swelling and dryness of the eyelids result in painful sensation, burning, swelling and sometimes inflammation of the skin.  Some people may even have weepy eyelid skin depending on the severity of the problem.

Eyelid eczema has other complications on the patient including sleep disorders and insomnia, fatigue and tiredness, low self-esteem and disruption of daily life.  This condition is triggered by allergens that may be present in the atmosphere like mold, pollen, mites, dust and animal dander.  Some people develop this condition because they react to cosmetic products and nickel in eyelash curlers.
