Mesenteries
The peritoneum is a single layer of flat mesothelial cells resting on a bed of looser connective tissue containing fat cells, macrophages, and some collagen and elastic fibers. The parietal peritoneum lines of all the abdominal cavity, covering the abdominal wall, diaphragm, and pelvis. Parietal peritoneum everywhere is reinforced by the endoabdominal fascia, which lies external to it. The visceral peritoneum covers all the intraabdominal viscera and mesenteries, and is identical with the serosa or capsule of the several intraabdominal organs.
