A message to Hawking: Thanks for giving non-believers (atheists) a bad name. I do not believe in a god either, but the smug, I’m smarter than the 95% of humans who do believe in a higher power goes beyond stating the case for a scientific theory. When laying out an argument for a scientific theory, why do you find it necessary to attack religion? You look, frankly, like a jerk, and either you’re ignorant to the fact that such tactics will win no one over to idea, or you’re simply firing off childish shots hoping to elicit an equaly childish response.
Have you ever wondered why it is all cultures, in all times, have had gods? The human brain is wired to be predisposed to such belief. It binds together a group of people, making cooperation and the spark of civilization possible. If you are devoid of any religious belief there is something wrong with you. You are not inherently bad, but ignoring the fact that you are in an extreme minority arguing against and insulting deeply held beliefs that we as humans are predisposed to hold regardless of their logic makes you, well, rotten. Romantic love advice is not logical, sir, would you argue that people who fall in love are less than those who do not? They should instead choose a mate based on some set of scientificly veted criteria? No, we are humans, and while religion has it’s many problems just as romantic love has it’s own, they are both inseparable from humanity.
